Six pieces, one long setlist, a room that wants to move.
Special Lady Friend is a six-piece blues, soul, funk and rock band out of Sonoma, playing private parties, weddings and local rooms around San Rafael and the rest of Marin County. The band brings its own backline, reads the crowd from the first song, and builds a set that works for a downtown room and a backyard in the hills alike.
The county seat draws everyone at once: families at an afternoon event, coworkers at a Friday party, a table of regulars who came specifically for the music. That mix is the reason this band leans on soul and R&B standards, blues shuffles and familiar rock songs instead of one narrow genre. If the room is seated and talking, the first set meets them there. By the third set the floor usually takes care of itself.
A full six-piece lineup with two lead voices, guitar, bass, drums and a mandolin that turns familiar songs sideways. We carry our own drum kit, amplifiers and vocal system, so the venue supplies the room and we supply everything that makes noise. Load-in is quick, sound check happens early, and one member handles the details from the first email so you are not coordinating musicians all week.
Most bookings are two or three sets spread across an evening, with an acoustic-leaning opening if the event starts with dinner.
