San Anselmo events happen close to home: a shop's anniversary, a school auction, a party that starts on the Avenue and ends in somebody's backyard. Special Lady Friend is a six-piece band from just up the road, with a soul and blues setlist that suits a neighborhood crowd and the gear to play it properly.
There is a difference between a band that drives in from a booking agency and one that knows the streets it is playing on. Ours is the second kind. We keep the volume human for the first set, bring two strong voices forward for the second, and leave a little room for requests if the crowd has one.
Auction nights and school fundraisers need music that works in the background during bidding and then turns into a party when the tables clear. We play that arc often: quiet soul and blues early, funk and rock for the last hour. The band can also donate a set to a local cause when the calendar allows, so ask if that is the shape of your event.
A power outlet, enough floor space for six players and their gear, and a covered spot if the event is outside. We bring the rest. Booking starts with an email with the date and the details, and we will tell you plainly whether we are free and what the night would cost.
