Mill Valley rooms tend to be warm, close and full of people who know each other. Special Lady Friend plays those rooms well: a six-piece band that can open quietly under the redwoods and finish the night with the whole party on its feet, without ever getting loud enough to end the conversation.
A hillside deck, a redwood grove, a garden with one long table, these spaces reward a band that controls its own volume rather than one that needs a big stage. Our drummer plays a full kit but knows how to sit in the pocket at a reasonable level, and the vocal system is scaled to the space. Neighbors stay happy, guests can still talk at dinner, and the last set still lands.
This is a town with a serious musical history and a lot of people who have heard good bands in small rooms. Our setlist pulls from soul and R&B, blues, funk and rock, played by six people who came up playing together rather than a pickup group reading charts. Harmonies are live, arrangements are loose in the right places, and the mandolin adds a texture most bands in the area cannot offer.
