A small room, a big view, and a band that plays to both.
Sausalito events happen in tight, beautiful spaces: waterfront decks, gallery rooms, boat clubs, restaurants where the tables sit close together. Special Lady Friend brings a six-piece lineup that can fill one of those rooms with sound and still leave space for people to talk, eat and watch the water.
Waterfront rooms bounce. Glass, tile and low ceilings send a drum kit everywhere at once, so the band sets up with that in mind: controlled stage volume, vocals balanced for a room where half the crowd is seated, and a set that starts with soul and blues rather than a wall of sound. It is the same band you would book for a Saturday night party, arranged for the space it is standing in.
Gallery openings and restaurant anniversaries, private parties on a deck, wedding welcome drinks the night before the ceremony, and company gatherings with a mix of locals and out-of-town guests. Because the setlist runs from Motown and Stax style soul through funk, blues and rock, it holds up for a crowd that did not come specifically for live music but is happy it is there.
Load-in for most Sausalito spaces means a narrow entrance and a short window, and parking is its own puzzle. We plan arrival around that, keep the footprint small and the backline compact, and are happy to play earlier in the evening if the room turns over after dinner.
