Sebastopol leans rootsy: barn dances, farm dinners, art walks, benefit shows that fill a room on a Tuesday. Special Lady Friend fits that world with a six-piece lineup that can pull the mandolin and acoustic textures forward for a farm dinner and then turn the same songs into a full dance set after dark.
A lot of west county events start with a long table in a field and end with someone demanding an encore. We build the set in that shape: blues and soul for the meal, then funk and rock as the light goes. The mandolin earns its place in both halves, which is rare for a band working this kind of night.
Sebastopol shows up for causes, and we are glad to be part of those nights. We play fundraisers, school events and community celebrations with a shorter set and a smaller footprint when needed, and we can keep the price reasonable when the money is going somewhere good.
West county evenings get cold and damp, which is hard on guitars and singers alike. For outdoor dates we plan a covered setup, a source of heat or at least a windbreak, and a spare plan for the weather. Send the date and the location and we will talk through what the site actually needs.
